Make a Statement with Colored Kitchen Cabinets

With all the cabinetry finishes out there, from traditional maple and cherry to paint distressed white, why choose colored cabinets?

Surprisingly, selecting colored cabinets doesn’t only come down to wanting a one of a kind look or an eye-catching, stand out kitchen - though these are valid reasons to go for color. In fact, there are several factors that might make colored cabinets the best choice for you that has nothing to do with their pigment.

Here are 5 additional reasons to make a statement with colored cabinets:

  1. You’re practical! When it comes to color, aside from your own personal tastes, think about what will work with respect to your lifestyle. If you have children, light-colored cabinets might not work for you in terms of maintenance. They may show fingerprints, smudges and food splatter more readily than colored cabinets. You may find that black acrylic cabinets fit your home better, especially if you have stainless steel appliances and want contemporary sophistication. If you’re an individual and want to make your kitchen a showcase, consider Opus Red matte acrylic kitchen cabinets. They will boldly stand up to life as you live it.
  2. You want to modernize - Woods like cherry and oak can be sophisticated and traditional. But if you’re looking to reinvent your kitchen with a modern take, colored cabinets will take you there. Colored cabinets are stylish and have a contemporary appeal, as they reflect light and absorb light in interesting ways, contrast nicely with today’s appliances, and demonstrate your individuality.
  3. You want consistency - Make choices consistent with the rest of your home. If you have a bright sense of style and have embraced a modern, chic style in your living room, for example, you don’t want to walk in the kitchen and see oak wood cabinets and wallpaper. (On the other hand, those oak cabinets and wallpaper might fit your personal style if you like a country look and your living room is full of dark wood furniture and patchwork quilts.) Carefully consider your personal style and where you want to take it – if you decide you like modern and want to go for something unique, check out Liquid glass cabinets in dark red or black.
  4. You want to play down appliances - If you have appliances that aren’t your personal aesthetic preference, but they still perform like new, and you do not intend to include them in your remodel project, play them down with savvy cabinet color choices. For example, black appliances will stand out against light colored cabinets and walls, but will blend in with bold color choices. If you want to play down those black appliances, select vivid colors like sea blue or crisp apple green in thermofoil cabinets. You might find you like your appliances after all when you mix and match color schemes.
  5. You know to work with the space you have – A smart homeowner considers space and light in home décor. Consider the fact that a small kitchen with darker colored cabinets may make the room seem smaller; conversely, a larger kitchen can handle a bold feature like red kitchen cabinets or bright thermofoil cabinets. If you have the space and good lighting (especially natural lighting) you might want to take advantage of these assets and accentuate your kitchen with a splash of color. (And remember, there are many options when it comes to color. Your room might be too small or dark to handle red or black cabinets but might still accommodate a cooler color like white or light blue.)

It’s more than selecting a color that you love and wanting to make it the backbone or focal feature of your kitchen. True, choosing colored cabinets will come down to picking a color you get pleasure from, but there are other factors to consider, including what features you wish to keep in your kitchen (existing appliances), how the rest of your home décor will play into your kitchen choices, what colors will work with your individual lifestyle, how color will affect the size of the room, and finally, whether you want to take a step toward a modern look.

Choose carefully, but enjoy all the options our Beyond Collections have to offer!
